Abandoned chapel somewhere in Belgium. A small chapel or a big church ? I don’t really know, but this place had probably been built for the miners as it is located near a coal mine, and was somehow dedicated to the sun as one of the stained glass proves it…
I didn’t found much information about this place, but by the look of its architecture, I’d says it’s probably been built in the 1930’s. The symbolic of the sun seems very important in this chapel, and it’s quite understandable if it’s been built for the miners ! I don’t know when or why it’s been left abandoned, though I found papers dating back from 2012, so I guess it’s abandon is quite recent. This chapel seems to have been totally forgotten, which explains its still excellent condition and has probably protected it from thieves and vandals. Even the plastic flowers are still stnding on theĀ altar! It seems like it just need a bit of cleaning and could host religious ceremonies again. The decay is only visible here and there, but is very discreet. A nice little find, even if there weren’t many pictures to take of it…
